JOB DESCRIPTION
The regional project “Support in the Prevention of Female Genital Mutilation at the Horn of Africa” works in regions of Ethiopia, Somalia and Sudan at local, regional and national level to overcome female genital mutilation. The focus is on developing the capacity of relevant actors, strengthening networks and raising awareness on the issue of Female Genital Mutilation and Cutting (FGM/C). Engaging a variety of stakeholders and involving local civil society play a special role in overcoming female genital mutilation. The partner of the project in Ethiopia is the Ministry for Women and Youth (MOWCY), based in Addis Ababa.
YOUR TASKS 1. Support of the MOWCY in its work on the prevention of female genital mutilation and the promotion of women 2. Capacity building of local partner institution (ministry) and the regional agencies in selected regions 3. Advice and support to community-based measures in the field of FGM prevention and awareness-raising on gender-based violence 4. Cooperation with community-based organizations and networks, with particular focus on the selected regions 5. Promotion of measures to raise awareness with regard to gender aspects and best practices in the area, focusing on women’s rights, capacity development of women and to preventing female genital mutilation 6. Support in advising change agents, especially non-governmental organizations, including the private sector and media actors 7. Further development of the Do-No-Harm-Approach for the project

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
YOUR PROFILE 1. University degree in gender-relevant subject areas, e.g. political science, sociology, development studies or comparable courses 2. Several years of professional experience in the field of women’s promotion and empowerment, health, or peace and security as well as in cooperation with civil society organizations 3. Advisory experience and competence on the topic of FGM 4. Experience abroad and experience in working in intercultural contexts, especially at the Horn of Africa and preferably experience in cooperating at a higher level with partner institutions 5. Teamwork and networking skills combined with the talent to think conceptually and analytically 6. Structured working style with a high degree of self-organization and creativity 7. Fluent German and English skills; Amharic skills are a great asset
LOCATION INFORMATION The security situation requires heightened vigilance. Tailored security risk mitigation measures are in place for GIZ staff in country.
