JOB DESCRIPTION
A permanent position exists at our Head office in Sandton for Manager: Development Debt Large within the Development Debt Department reporting to the Head: Development Debt

JOB PURPOSE
To coach and guide the team in building and managing a portfolio of Large Business Partners (“BPs”), driving value of the Business Partners to ensure debt obligation are honored, and financial and developmental objectives are achieved, thereby contributing to the achievement of IDC’s long-term sustainability and development impact.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This role includes the following, but is not limited to:
1. Oversee the monitoring and management of existing and newly acquired large investments in the department’s portfolio, which includes amongst others the following:
2. Build and maintain influential relationships with Business Partner management teams
3. Guide the Associates in the engagements with Business Partners as well as internal stakeholders within the Division and within the IDC to ensure a collaborative approach.
4. Determining the best way in which IDC can contribute towards the prevention of the client’s financial decline or early warning signals detection and implementation of required interventions.
5. Provide guidance and drive the team in the development of value creation plans for identified Business Partners and ensure Business Partners are influenced to adopt and implement such plans.
6. Monitor that strategic interventions are being implemented and the outcomes being addressed through the VCP’s.
7. Monitor insights on deviations from Business Partner’s strategic initiatives and ensure plans developed and agreed with Business Partner’s management teams to rectify deviations are implemented.
8. Monitor value creation levers in accordance with the value creation plans to ensure that Business Partners meet the agreed obligations as outlined in the value creation plans, where adherence had not been applied, implement the required action.
9. Identify Business Partners, where performance is not at the required level and develop a framework to ensure personal visits occur and diagnostics are conducted to identify areas requiring improvement and specialized assistance.
10. Identify strategic data to be collected for each Business Partner and ensure this is collected and strategy as outlined is implemented.
11. Identify opportunities for enhanced implementation of IDC’s developmental mandate in regards to portfolio of clients and ensure the team is informed and implement accordingly;
12. Ensure the provision of client service excellence by the team and optimize service delivery in a manner that meets the client’s needs;
13. Build and maintain a network of relationships across the Corporation.
14. Ensuring Associates timeously & accurately risk grade their Business Partner’s & updating of collateral confirmation to manage impairments in the IDC debt book.
15. Guide the Associates in effective IDC cashflow management to increase the collections rate in IDC.
16. Working in collaboration with Portfolio Insights and Reporting identify data analytics and dashboards that will enable financial performance review and monitoring of Business Partner’s and Market analysis.
17. Overseeing roles in reviewing of Associates’ Business Partner reviews, Application of Funds reports, AFS analysis reports & CAM memos etc.
18. Portfolio analysis that feeds into the departmental and divisional portfolio analysis & strategy.
19. Guide the Associates in their engagements with BPs to ensure high service delivery to IDC clients.
20. Assist Associates in the creating & review of the Value Creation Plans (VCPs) & KPIs proposed to assess if they address BP risks & enhance growth.
21. Partner with the team in building and managing the debt investments team to fulfil the mandate of the department in line with the IDC’s and department’s specific policies and systems & procedures.
22. Operational line management of direct reports made up of a cluster team of Senior Associates and Associates responsible for specific portfolios (in various SBUs) and oversee their engagement with internal and external stakeholders.
23. Utilize own and expert knowledge, experience, multi-dimensional understanding and application of best practices to guide the team in the fulfilment of its roles.
24. To review the necessary reports to senior management, various committees and Board.
25. Manage and review key portfolio management processes and procedures on a regular basis.
26. Ensure that the team is familiar with all the relevant terms and conditions of the contractual relationship between IDC and its business partner.
27. To ensure that early warnings signals and other key risks factors are proactively identified by the team.
28. In line with cluster line management role, oversee direct report performance contracting and performance monitoring and measurement as well as provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to the team.
29. Design and compile reports and checklists to ensure efficient and effective monitoring of IDC investments.
30. Assist the department in the development of annual business plans and formulation and implementation of strategies to execute the role of the department.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
1. 8 to 10 years’ experience in a Post Investment/Portfolio Management role and/or credit monitoring / due diligence in a finance / banking environment with experience in drawdowns and exit processes, strategy formulation and implementation of portfolio management.
2. Should have at least 3 years’ experience in assessing the economic viability of businesses and/or projects
3. At least 3 years’ experience at a leadership level and management of teams
4. Sound experience in a financial environment is essential
5. Outstanding skills in respect of the analysis and interpretation of financial statements
6. Sound knowledge of business and the diversity of risks that may affect businesses
7. Good understanding of different types of security
8. Good working knowledge of Company and Contract legislation
9. Understanding of Economic trends
10. Project management experience.
11. Knowledge and experience on how to help BP’s execute value creation
12. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
