JOB DESCRIPTION The “Integrated approach to climate change in the rice production system in Nigeria” is a Joint Action by EU and the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). It is part of the EU Action “Sustainable Agri-Food Systems and at the same time of the global project "Green Innovation Centers in the Agriculture and Food Sector- Country Package Nigeria (GIC-NIGERIA)" which is part of the global BMZ special initiative "One World Without Hunger". The project will contribute to sustainable rural development through innovations in the rice value chain and the farmer – agro-pastoralist nexus in selected local government areas of the federal states of Benue and Nassarawa in the Nigerian Middle Belt.
YOUR TASKS 1. Lead project implementation to ensure high quality outputs and results 2. Financial and technical responsibility for the Action 3. Communication with the Contracting authority for full information on progress in the sector and timely reporting to EU as stipulated 4. Management of the team of international and national long-term experts 5. Reporting, Monitoring and Evaluation as well as Knowledge management 6. Coordination of implementation with other stakeholders, donors and Action components as necessary 7. Preparation of and participation in the regular Steering Committee meetings 8. Lead project communication, represent the project and assure close coordination within the GIC-NIGERIA

REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS JOB |
YOUR PROFILE 1. University degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Agricultural Economics or related field 2. Several years of relevant professional experience, preferably gained abroad, with management of development projects 3. Extensive experience in the rice sector with a focus on sustainability and climate change adaptation and mitigation 4. Several years of experience in the implementation of EU financed or co-financed development projects and familiar with EU-project implementation procedures 5. Experience and good understanding of the promotion of agriculture value chains through integrated approaches for agricultural transformation 6. Experience with land and resource use integration of farmers and herders will be an advantage 7. Cultural sensibility and ability to work well in a cross-cultural team 8. Business fluent in German and English

NOTES This job is suited to a full or a part-time position. A contract extension until 09/24 might be probable due to a co-financing. The willingness for frequent business trips is required.
