ABOUT AIDS HEALTCARE FOUNDATION - NIGERIA   
Increasing Access to Treatment: AHF Nigeria has a national commitment to scale up access to HIV services by providing free quality antiretroviral therapy, TB/HIV co-infection management, Treatment of STIs/OIs and care and support to people living with HIV/AIDS. In February 2017, AHF unveiled two newly constructed facilities in Agan and Daudu communities in Benue state, in addition to renovating existing facilities in Agasha, Gbajimba and constructing a new facility in General Hospital Isanlu in Kogi state. This is part of AHF’s contribution to the country’s HIV/AIDS response and to promote quality service delivery.

Prevention: AHF supports the Federal Ministry of Health’s HIV/AIDS response to reduce the incidence of new infections, through increased access to free HTS (HIV Testing Services) , Condom promotion and distribution. As part of its condom distribution exercise, AHF Nigeria installs condom dispensers at strategic locations and hotspots and is also responsible for the refilling of these dispensers. This initiative brings condoms closer to the populace and emphasizes the importance of consistent and correct condom use. . AHF Nigeria also runs intense outreaches in communities to increase awareness, conduct HTS and multi-disease campaigns, and link patients to care. In 2015, AHF Nigeria attempted the Guinness World Record Testing event in Benue state and a total of 7,934 people were tested within 8 hours. In 2016, the program hit an impressive milestone of reaching 1 million Nigerians with HIV Testing Services (HTS). AHF Nigeria lends financial and technical assistance to Community based organizations (CBOs) in the Country and works closely with them to reduce the spread of the disease, provide treatment services and increase awareness at grass root level, through community mobilization and engagement.

Advocacy: AHF is a relentless and tenacious advocate for people living positively around the world and has been at the forefront of numerous advocacy campaigns to compel governments, policy makers and NGOs to act in the interest of people living with HIV/AIDS. AHF Nigeria has built a strong reputation in the country in the area of advocacy and policy. Furthermore, AHF Nigeria actively participates in key Technical Working Groups (TWG) and partners forum in the country. In 2016, AHF Nigeria in partnership with UNAIDS and NACA launched the simplified version of the 2014 HIV/AIDS anti-discrimination law, to aid understanding and application for the general populace. Working closely with civil society organizations and partners, AHF initiated the Fund the Fund campaign – which calls for increased funding to the Global Fund, World Bank Middle Income Classification campaign and its impact on donor funding, and GIRLS ACT initiative – a multi-institutional drive targeting young women and girls aged 15-24.AHF supports organizations through the provision of grants. Some beneficiaries have received up to $24,000 for community HIV/AIDS and empowerment programs. AHF Nigeria boasts of a team of passionate and vibrant individuals who jointly deliver on a AHF’s mission in the country.

In August 2011 AHF partnered with the Federal Ministry of Health to establish the Foundation for AIDS Care, Prevention and Advocacy in Nigeria (popularly known as AHF Nigeria). The organization began operations in the Nation’s capital, Abuja (which serves as the Country Office), Benue and Kogi State with the aim of bringing cutting edge medical and advocacy services closer to people living with HIV/AIDS in the Country. Since inception, AHF Nigeria has established a strong presence in six states namely: FCT (Abuja), Kogi, Benue, Nasarawa, Anambra, and Cross River from where it provides topnotch comprehensive, treatment, care and support, prevention and advocacy services free of charge. AHF Nigeria currently supports twenty-four comprehensive sites and thirty-eight outposts, which serves PLHIVs in hard to reach communities 2016 marked the programs’ 5th anniversary in Nigeria.
